Twix & I playing in my classroom

Twix & I playing in my classroom

. Twix has been to my classroom a few times and came during parent teacher conferences as well. However, he has not been in my class when all those desks are filled with children. So, before I brought him to school with the kids, I wanted to make sure he was really comfortable in the classroom. Prior to doing tricks he hung out with me as I did grades. I have an area in the back that is blocked off with gates, blankets over the gates to make the dogs feel safe, a dog bed, water dish, and a crate. This way when they come to school with me, they can choose to be out with the students or in their safe zone away from kids. It is always their choice and usually they choose to be out with the kids. It is really sweet to watch! Kids and dogs just hanging out together and not stressing each other out. My students have been taught about calming signals and dog body language and are observing Isabelle and Twix (as well as I am!!!!) for any anxiety! Have a wonderful day! @pamelamarxsen That is amazing! I did my Senior project on Pet Therapy, it’s too bad I didn’t meet you sooner, I’m sure you would have been a great outside contact for the project! (In my school, we do senior projects junior year for some reason) Unfortunately, I go to school in Rhode Island 🙁 but it would have been a great experience I’m sure. 🙂

This is great! The school allows you to bring the dogs to class?! that’s amazing! Do other teachers bring dogs, or is it just you?

@nicolebodea They gave me neomycin and Polymyxin B OIntment and I have to put it in their eyes 3 times a day for 12 days. I did not want them to develop a fear of me putting it in their eyes, so every time I put it in their eyes, we played a high intensity game of fetch. 🙂 They were all really great!

@pamelamarxsen Yeah I know what you mean, it’s scary even if its something is really not that bad because we love them so much! Did you just use a treatment of eye drops? I’m glad they got better!

@stilldreamyn Great idea! I wish I knew how to do that, because that would be awesome! 🙂

i seriously was expecting a bar of chocolate to appear on the screen eventually with ‘twix’ in the title -_-

  11. pamelamarxsen says:

@melissa2ea The actual class title is personal growth, but it is all about dogs (safety, body lang, shelters, training, things to do with dogs, and a lot more). 🙂 I love teaching it & hope I get to teach it again next year. 🙂 Actually with all the budget cuts schools are going through I will just be HAPPY to have a job next year! 🙂

  12. pamelamarxsen says:

@ThePamperedPuppy Thank you! I just love my two jobs! Training kids by day and dogs by night. 🙂

    ‘Dog awareness class’ sounds amazing.
How I wish that would be taught in every school! Maybe something for animals in general…

I wish my teachers would bring their dogs to school! I wish to join your class too and play with cute Twix and pat sweet Isabelle! 🙂 Twix loves the frisbee so much! He is staring at it eagerly, waiting for you to throw it. 🙂

@pamelamarxsen ah I wish I went to your school! That’s so cool!! (you could have a field trip to go to an agility trial lol)
    So awesome!

  20. pamelamarxsen says:

@AppyCollie I teach 4 periods of PE and 1 period elective (it is a dog awareness class) and I try to teach my students everything I can about dogs and dog training. I really want them to grow up knowing there is a better way to treat and train mans best friend! 🙂

  21. AppyCollie says:

SO COOL!!! I wish my teachers brought their dogs. One of our supervisors (they do odd jobs and watch students) brings his golden to school and even has him in his yearbook photo!
    What subject do you teach?

  22. pamelamarxsen says:

@nicolebodea That is awesome! I will have an insider in the vet world. I am always on the internet trying to diagnose my dogs! ARG! The internet can be a scary place when you have no idea what is wrong with your furry family member. Twix & Bandit just got over doggie pink eye (conjunctivitis – not sure of the spelling) and I was so worried! I will be asking you questions. hehe! Take care!

  23. nicolebodea says:

@pamelamarxsen In AZ :PPP I know you’re from Show Low tho!! 🙂 But I am gonna go to college in 2 yrs at ASU or U of A, and then I will be going to vet school! I am really excited and I am trying to choose between Colorado state or University of California. They were both rated as top two and I am so lucky they are in our schools list that AZ students can go to with in state tuition since we don’t have vet schools here. I might see one day!! 🙂

@LeoxPomeranian Isabelle could come to your school without any problems. She is a certified therapy dog and is allowed at schools. Twix is not really allowed, but my principal is amazing! So many teachers bring their dogs from time to time at my school. 🙂 Where do you go to school?

  25. pamelamarxsen says:

@nicolebodea Isabelle is a Therapy Dog and can go into the class, but Twix would not be allowed if I did not have a really awesome principal that LOVES dogs. 🙂 Where do you go to school? I could totally bring Isabelle!
