My dog keeps chewing plastic when i am out, how can i stop him from chewing ?

.

my dog is nearly 3, he is a rescue dog and is a mix (we think) of rhodesian ridgeback and mastiff. When we are in the house he is perfect however when we leave him we give him run or the conservator kitchen, hall, stairs and landing ONLY. Recently he has been chewing plastic and anythign he can get hold of ! he had dragged our bin through our kitchen but its only happened recently within the past 4-5 weeks. We have tried everything ! and would much appriciate any tips or advice. Many thanks.

Previous poster is correct. Some people think a crate is mean and if you are gone for 8 hours or more it might be. But putting a baby in a crib while you sleep keeps him from drinking bleach. Worth it. He may just chew plastic now but what if it were a plugged in electric cord? Not only might he get hurt but that could even cause a fire.

So crate training instructions are available at http://www.pethelp.net/_oldsite/crates.html

one word. KONG. They are simply the best. A kong, biscuit and peanut butter. That’s all you need. I have a APBT. Every time we leave we give her her kong and no more chewed up stuff.

try crating him. He cant destroy stuff if he is crated.

You have to put it in a crate while you are gone.

I have bought crates at Walmart.

but you can also buy used crates or dog cages at animal shelters for a reasonable price.
