Is it more stressful to be a dog guardian nowadays?
I mean my parents never had an issue with their dogs, even though one of them was a german sheperd (bad reputation in the 80′s)
but now it seems there are laws banning this and that… etc…
I will move to a place next year that requires some breeds (no need to tell which ones, u guess) and some mix breeds to wear a muzzle, get extra insurance just to walk the dogs outside….
my family just asked me why I adopted one of my dog (who falls in that category) … I am like " i saw her eyes, she was a mellow dog, I fell in love, I am a walker, I wanted to walk that dog everyday"
I did not think of all these stupid laws that came out 3 years later…
Now I feel like the next dogs that I will adopt will definitely be under 50lbs, even though I love big dogs… it gets too stressful.
Do other people feel that way? or it’s just me (maybe because I am dealing with all the dog paperwork now)
I will not give up my dog – just that when she passes away, I will adopt a smaller breed with no bad press.

I’m a dog "owner" (guardian is an AR term) and yes, owning a perceived "dangerous" breed is stressful ….sometimes…especially dealing with the idiots who think their b*tch and my dog would make "mean azz dogs"….(no kidding, got an email today wanting to breed and that was the exact term)
It’s not the dogs that are the problem, it’s the idiots that think they deserve to own one…..education, not legislation.
I will never live with another breed…..I just do my best to educate on responsible dog ownership, and fight rediculous mandatory s/n laws, and bsl….
yes. i have a pit. she is amazing in every shape and form. i raised her from a puppy and everyone she meets falls in love. i am forever loyal to this breed because of her, but if they planned on banning this breed or any large breed in my neighborhood, my house would go up for sale the next day. i agree with licenses and papers to have the dog, i don’t believe in anyone telling me what kind of breed i can have. it is stressful. and all these "headlines" make it worse. good luck
If you can handle "high risk" breed, go for it. Unfortunately these stupid laws have been brought upon by even more stupid dog "owner" morons.
It is stressful because irrespnsible owners ruin it for others.
there are many places such as parks where no dogs are allowed, I wonder why? People probably didn’t clean up after their dogs.
Responsible owners are punished because of the irresponsible owners.
It is considerably harder to be a guardian of many kinds of pets, as well as children these days, that were living in. Instead of using common sense, and relying on our own integrity, many laws are being past without our knowledge. Until it is too late for any of us to do anything about it. Our freedoms, are being taken away bit by bit. The lawmakers, seem to think that they know best, what is good for us. But, then again, we voted them in to do just that! A license to walk your dogs seems very ridiculous. I’m sure many people hope this doesn’t happen where they reside. It would be interesting to know where your moving to. People would have to know, before they visited the area with their dogs. By the way, We have German shepherd, and they are very loving and friendly to everyone. The ones who have given the most trouble around here , are the tiny ones, they have bitten other large dogs, and also children. Good luck in your new place, I’d be sorry if you have to give up your sweet, mellow dog.
