How much does a vet cost for a cat showing pink eye and water from the eye what may he have and price wise?

My Cat is showing very watery eyes (NOT green and doesn’t appear when I have wiped it with a tissue or his face) His eye is a bit pink around the outsides and in the corner of his eye lids, He is eating he was lost for 3 days before hand he came back home and ran up too me and meowed and I gave him food and water he eat most of it, I have been feeding him he has a bit of sneezing not much but like at least 1 every few hours it’s only been one day since he is home. I’m not the richest bloke so I can’t go around getting him help if it’s too costy, as bad as it makes me feel. He was a off spring off one of our previous cats we keep him because he jumped out of basket when taking him too the pet store for sale, and we couldn’t catch him and had too take other cats before closing. So he never got his needles which was a mistake. Any idea what he may have and what would be the price range like at most or at least.

Really need to get to the vets.I work with URI cats and I can tell you the pink eye is nasty they can go blind from it. It is usually treated with drops. Sometimes doxy. It will not be a expensive vet visit. Because the cat is sick many vets will not give vaccinations while the cat is ill.If you tell the vet that you can not afford the vaccinations at this time and will make another appointment to get them the vet might let it slide especially if you tell him it is a indoor cat.Do not let the fact that your cat is not up to date on shots prevent you from taking the cat to the vets. It is very common in today’s economic times for the vet to see animals without shots sad as it is.The meds to treat the cat should be $20 or so. I would say that you can get out of the vet visit for $40.00. But the cat really needs to see the vet.

I’m not sure. You should shop around, but they will have the cat get its shots at the same time.

Try the local humane center/SPCA. They sometimes give reduced priced visits or vaccines (since your cat needs them) & reduced priced spaying/neutering (a must!). Also try a cat rescue agency in your area. They may be able to point you to a good vet or one who allows payment plans or maybe they offer veterinary services.

To me it sounds like an upper respiratory infection. There might be a bacterial infection as well.

Every vets going to charge you differently and I do encourage you to call around to local vets and ask them what a ‘consultation/check-up fee is going to be. You can describe the symptoms if they need more info.

My own vet charges $47 for a general look-see. That is a flat rate for a complete physical exam that comes with every vet visit. Recently, we took our kitten to the vet for an upper respiratory infection and we walked out with an eye meds (that were around $50) and a permanent perscription for an amino acid paste to help combat her FHV symptoms to the tune of $54

(FVH = feline herpesvirus — it’s like a permanent cold that flares up from time to time)

So all in all i think we were in the neighborhood of $150ish for the whole shebang. She’s had meds for a bacterial infection (ie: clavamox) that came with ‘cold’ symptoms and that also was about $40.

Every vet charges differently though and you can’t be sure if or what your kitty will need as far as medicine goes. Calling around or asking friends about their vets (if they have trusted, regular vets) is probably the best though.

Some vets will also allow you to have a payment plan if you ask about it before the appointment so thats worth checking out too :)

Edit: and on another note, vaccinations are so important! Some vets offer you a bit of a deal if you do your regular first time shots and a rabies vaccination at the same time. As far as shots go, you will need one round of a 3-in-1, 4-in-1 or 5-in-1 needle (‘the first shots’) and a booster about 10 days later. Ask about pricing when you’re phoning around. The vet might be able to recommend a shelter or low-cost clinic where your vaccinations can come much more moderately priced if you’re worried about cost :)

Your cat may very well have pink eye. It is contagious to other cats so you’ll need to keep him indoors and away from other cats until it has cleared up. Pink eye in cats can be caused by an infection, or an external irritants (including eyelashes, and even trauma (e.g. injury from a cat fight). You don’t necessarily have to take your cat to the vet if it is pink eye. You can purchase a bottle of Feline Eye Easy online and use it to treat the pink eye at home instead.

If the pink eye is left untreated it can lead to blindness in your cat.
