How hard is it to crate train and pee pee pad train?

Author: I would like to train my female shih tzu to go on the pad, instead of outside. It snows where I live and she wont want to go out in it and neither will I. I live in a duplex which is not fenced off. I would like to teach my little puppy that is 4 months old to crate train, but instead of going outside I want her to go on the pads. Has anyone done this with their dogs, what was the outcome? And I dont mean putting a pad in her crate, I mean in a spot in the house, that way when I let her out of her crate, she goes on the pad and gets used to it that way.

Honey you need to suck it up, put a sweater on and bring your dog outside. By getting a dog you committed to caring for that dog. That means going out in the winter to let it relieve itself – it won’t hurt the dog at all, and it certainly won’t hurt you. You’re the only one that is going to be hesitant about going out.
By letting your dog go anywhere inside the home you are pretty much telling the dog that anywhere inside is fair game. And inside of a house to a dog in all the same – nothing looks different. They very often don’t notice the pee pads or papers and go anywhere they please.
When you bring your dog OUT then they realize that their potty place is DIFFERENT than the inside of the house and that’s where they learn to go. After all, the outside looks very different than the inside. If you aren’t ready to commit to proper potty training techniques then re-home the dog and wait until you are.
FYI i had a seven lb maltese, always in the puppy (short) cut. We live in upstate NY. She went outside to potty for eleven years with no coat or anything – she learned very quickly to potty within minutes, then would come inside and run around. The cold air invigorated her and made her playful. And guess what – i took her out!
When my dog was a puppy we used pad things….when ever you uaually take your dog for a walk call her over to the pad. Keep on calling her until she stays there. It probably won’t be that hard to get her to stay there. Just do that everyday until she gets used to it then it’ll be easier.
I live in an area where the winter temp gets way past -20C. The shih tzus here have no problem going outside. (They just go quickly!) Crate training is easier if you start when you bring puppy home but it is easy enough. Most crates have basic instructions with them. The pads have an odour in them which encourages the dog to go there. Not my personal choice.
I have a Lassa Op-so and this is how I trained him:actually you should put it in their crate because they wont pee where they sleep, you should also put one close to her crate that way when she is let out she will immediately "go". when she does it give her her fave treat and she will get used to it and get on a schedule. (hope it works !!!!!!!!!)
